Innovative approaches to health promotion

This module is a core module for both health visitors and school nurses undertaking the SCPHN programme. However it is available for nursing professionals wishing to gain a greater understanding of health promotion.

The module aims to enable students to develop critical understanding of the theories underpinning health education/promotion practice in preparation for proactive, reflective, innovative and effective practice. The broad content of the module will include; 

  • Teaching and learning styles 
  • Learning theories and models 
  • Health promotion principles 
  • Models in planning, implementing and evaluation 
  • Health promotion interventions 
  • Learning outcomes 
  • The ability to critically evaluate and apply models of health promotion 
  • Devise, critically evaluate innovative and implement strategies aimed at promoting health individuals, groups and the wider community
  • Systematically explore cultural and ethical issues in relation to complex issues and situations that effectively promote health promotion strategies 

Entry Criteria

  • Effective registration with appropriate professional statutory regulatory body
  • Ability to study to degree level (120 credits level 4/5)
  • Evidence of recent study

(If accessing the module at level 7 (2:2 degree or above) required.
