Independent Study in Palliative care

The module allows the student to explore in depth an issue relevant to palliative care. In negotiation with his/her manager and module leader, the student will identify an area relevant to his/her professional practice. 

The student will build upon his/her existing knowledge and experience by examining an area of contemporary palliative care practice using the framework of independent contracted learning. 

Entry Criteria

  • Palliative care experience in a professional or voluntary capacity
  • Ability to study at Masters level (minimum of 2.2 first degree OR evidence of degree level study)
  • Evidence of recent study

Location: The Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice, Groby Road, Leicester

This module runs in each of the three semesters. There are no taught sessions on this module. Students are allocated a personal tutor and tutorial support and guidance is provided by negotiation.

MPHE 5511 is assessed at master’s level. To be eligible to undertake this module you must have completed an undergraduate degree programme or have undertaken degree level module(s) as independent units of study. If it is some time since you studied at degree level you are strongly advised to access an academic study guide to familiarise yourself with the range of skills necessary to study at an advanced level. These include the ability to undertake a literature review and demonstrate critical analysis and commentary. There are many excellent study guides available.
