Advanced care of the critically ill child/young person (L3)

This module will build on skills and knowledge already attained to provide specialist critical care knowledge and skills and allow achievement of competencies at Step Three of the National Competency Framework (CC3N, 2015) adapted towards a paediatric intensive care setting. Students will be supported to develop their expertise and leadership in the care and management of the complex critically ill patient using up to date evidence based practice. By developing their enhanced problem solving and enhanced communication skills students will demonstrate their ability to work in very complex and challenging paediatric intensive care environments. This module is designed for those who want to develop into nursing leadership roles, supervising and supporting others working within an advanced critical care environment.

Entry Criteria

  • Effective registration with an appropriate Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) in health care
  • Minimum one year's post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting, and working within a paediatric intensive care environment
  • Possess BSc (Hons) 2:2 degree award minimum
  • IELTS 6.5 in all criteria

Non Standard

  • Minimum of three years post-registration experience, normally within a health practice setting
  • Possess a BSc or 60 credits equivalent at level 6 which must include a Research module (or equivalent)
  • Applicants who fall short of the above entry requirements may use the RPL mechanism to contribute towards the above criteria at the discretion of the Programme Leader
