Module description
This module is about the ways in which environmental concerns are managed through the political system and the processes of public policy making. It examines the roles and responsibilities of different actors (government, business, citizens, NGOs) in protecting the environment. It examines the distinctive characteristics of environmental problems as policy issues and considers the strengths and weaknesses of the different policy instruments, techniques and criteria that are used as tools for managing the environment and implementing environmental policies. It also considers the role of scientific and political knowledge and expertise in the assessment of environmental risks. It addresses environmental policy making at national and international level.
