Module description
This module analyses contemporary debates and issues in the field of health strategy, policy and management. It will benefit students who wish to gain a firm understanding of the issues facing the health and social care system, the policy and management processes involved, and the wider political and management context. It explores the nature of health and wellbeing, the origins and history of the NHS, and the health policies and programmes of recent governments. It also explores in detail a wide range of specific issues and topics, including: NHS funding, the rationing of health services, primary care, public health, and patient and public involvement. The module will appeal particularly to students interested in career opportunities in government, the health service, local authorities, and the voluntary and private health and social care sectors.
