Module description

A highly technical module consisting of a very detailed review and practice of the mechanics of accounting for groups of companies, together with the study of advanced level financial reporting standards and techniques, combines with a consideration of alternative reporting practices.

Learning Outcomes:

Subject Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • To consider the financial reporting standards applicable to reporting the results of groups of companies
  • To prepare group accounts and reports
  • To consider and critically evaluate the motivations and strategic objectives of takeovers and acquisitions
  • To critically review current financial accounting standards and issues
  • To evaluate and apply mechanisms of capital reconstruction and reorganisation to companies

Cognitive and Non Subject Specific Skills

  • The ability to apply rational analysis to a strategic commercial situation and to draw reasoned conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • The ability to learn independently and self-manage learning needs
  • The ability to apply appropriate numeracy skills to a strategic organisational issue
  • The ability to communicate sophisticated financial data and long term plans effectively to a knowledgeable audience
