Module description

Political Thought is intended to provide students with an appreciation of the history of political thought and the diversity of different issues relevant to the discipline of politics. It provides an insight into the concepts and frameworks which students can draw upon when conducting independent study. The course is concerned with the history of political thought, and is intended to facilitate an appreciation of different perspectives on subjects such as legitimacy, rights, authority, power and democracy.

This module will:

Outline the history of political thought, including an introduction to the major political thinkers who are compared and contrasted in the context of the individual and community, rights and liberty, reason and tradition, and potentials for political change in the context of their development within the history of political thinking.
