Module description

The module is intended to provide students with an appreciation of the history of political thought and the diversity of different approaches and issues relevant to the discipline of politics. It provides an insight into the concepts and frameworks which students can draw upon when conducting independent study.

This module will:
1. Outline the history of political thought, including an introduction to the major political thinkers which are compared and contrasted in the context of the individual and community rights, rights and liberty, and reason and treason;
2. Consider the appreciation of different perspectives on subjects such as legitimacy, rights, authority, power and democracy;
3. Examine dynamics of political change.
