Issues in Civil Liberties

Module code: LLBP 2004

Module description

Questions about the role and place of religion in modern society are increasingly in the spotlight, and several legal developments in recent years have directly concerned religion. These include protection for freedom of religion as a right under the Human Rights Act 1998, the inclusion of religion as a protected characteristic in equality legislation, and the criminalisation of incitement to religious hatred. Religion and religious matters also have a bearing on other areas of law, including education, family law and medical law. The aim of this module is to explore some of these areas.
