Module code: PAMG3503

Level: 6

Credits: 15

Semester: A

Description: Sustainability has become an accepted framework for planning in the world. However, the actual practice of planning as it relates to sustainability still remains ambiguous. The planning literature is rich in discussion about planning role and planning approaches, but there has been little that makes a direct and specific connection with sustainability. The questions still remain largely unanswered: What makes sustainability planning? How is it different from traditional planning? The purpose of this module is to explore the specific requirements in terms of planner role, planning process, and planning methods that are suggested by the systems theory that underlies sustainability.

This module examines planning and sustainability in a wide context and takes on board two main facets:

  1. Social planning and sustainability
  2. Environmental Sustainability
