Business Context

Module code: LBPG 5012

Module description

The Business In Context module is run by Leicester Business School as an underpinning business module for students on a number of specialist postgraduate degrees. The module provides an introduction to business and examines the complex and dynamic environment in which business operate. An important theme here is that business can best be understood as a series of inter-related activities in a set of different dynamic and ever evolving contexts.

The module will begin by explaining what we mean by business and examines the relevant contexts in which businesses operate - these include the environmental (macro), organizational and strategic (micro) contexts. The module then goes on to focus on key business activities (internal) - which include marketing, finance and accounting - and assesses the complex interactions that operate within and between these business activities and their contexts. The emphasis here is to appreciate that these activities do not exist in a vacuum, but are shaped by, and in turn shape, the contexts within which they operate. The aim is to develop a more cohesive and holistic understanding of business.
