A business model describes the rationale of how an organisation creates, delivers, and captures value. On this module students will explore the notion of business model through nine basic building blocks that show the logic of how a company intends to make money. The nine blocks cover the four main areas of a business: customers segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships and cost structure. The business model is like a blueprint for a strategy to be implemented through organizational structures, processes, and systems. The links will be made with strategy concepts, and practical knowledge and tools to understand, analyse, question and develop business models by utilising the 9 block framework through case studies will be developed on this module. Core areas covered include: Introduction to Business Models; The Business Model Canvas; Types of Business Models; Business Model Design; Business Model Environment; Evaluating Business Models; Blue Ocean Strategy; and Managing Multiple Business Models.
