Module code: LLMP 5246
This module provides an appreciation of various, significant areas of law that seek to regulate matters of safety and other standards in connection with food sources. Additionally attention is given at the outset to the distribution of liabilities at common law where there is some identifiable loss or damage affecting food sources. In general the law is municipal law, in two senses: it is exclusive to much of the United Kingdom and is often, though not always, administered and enforced by local authorities. However, it is important to recognise those areas of law administered and enforced at central government level.
EU law also has a significant role to play in some areas of protection. In particular the EU law on genetic modification and novel foods is considered in this module.
