Module description

Planning is a highly controversial topic that affects how people live, work and play involving political, environmental, social, cultural and economic dimensions.

This module provides a general understanding of the main parts of the legal planning framework in England which controls, regulates and facilitates the use of land. Planning law comprises of a range of primary legislation together with a considerable amount of secondary legislation and also supported by national policy, guidance and ministerial statements. The module includes the following topics:

  1. Introduction to planning law
  2. Development plans
  3. Development management
  4. Enforcement
  5. Appeals and judicial review
  6. Other planning issues
