Alternative Dispute Resolution

Module code: LLMP 5273

Module description

Conflict in the workplace is inevitable.  Conflict is not always characterised by the presence of violence, and indeed, it often takes other, much more subtle but equally destructive, forms.

An essential management skill arises with how to deal with conflict when it has arisen, in a way that preserves as far as possible the employment relationship and the dignity of all people concerned.

Through readings and in-class discussions, students will be encouraged to actively analyse the policies, programmes and practices discussed and debated and to reflect upon the same within their own organisation or one with which they are familiar, to aid the process of making the connections between theory and practice.
