Module code: POPP 5024
Module description
The purpose of this module is to facilitate an understanding of both the traditional and non-traditional (or soft) security threats that emanate from just outside the boundaries of the European Union, especially from the post-Soviet region and the Western Balkans. The module is divided into two distinct research areas: the first dealing with more traditional security problems such as war, ethnic conflicts and terrorism, whilst the second area looks at so-called 'soft' security threats, such as transnational organised crime, migration, human and narcotics trafficking and internal corruption. The module will also address the EU's Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and its Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) as well as how agencies such as Europol are dealing with both existing and emerging threats including cyber crime.
