About CSA
The Centre for Social Action is based at De Montfort University in the School of Applied Social Studies as part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. We are a Centre which supports and facilitates research, training and consultancy in the fields of public participation in health, community work and social care. We seek to work in partnership to impact on social issues and support through public and community engagement and participatory practice.
Based on a commitment to social justice we work in partnership and collaboration with the active involvement of people in decisions concerning their communities, services and lives.
The Centre for Social Action has a particular commitment to empowerment and participatory approaches to research and maximizing the involvement of community members, young people and service users. Through participatory research with young people, disabled people and older people, our key areas of work are:
- Social Action participatory research
- Youth participation
- Social capital and resilience
- Person centred support
- Well being
- Public and patient involvement
To undertake this work we have received funding from the ESRC, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the BIG Lottery as well as numerous commissions from local authorities and third sector organisations, with grants ranging from £10,000 to £500,000.
