Professional and Executive Policy Seminars

The LGRU provides tailored executive development programmes for councillors, senior executives, managers and leaders on a range of contemporary issues relevant to local government.  We work closely with individual councils, or a group of councils, on designing and shaping a day or half-day seminar or workshop that will address your specific needs for training and development.  We will tailor our seminars and workshops to provide maximum opportunities for the exploration of the implications of recent policy changes and to enable participants to share experiences and learning.  Our policy seminars and workshops can be organised in-authority at your council's premises, or at DMU's state-of-the-art Hugh Aston building.

Our most recent seminars and workshops with councils have covered issues such as:

  • Local Government: Dealing with austerity
  • Local Political Leadership
  • Strategy and Policy Leadership
  • The Challenges of the Big Society
  • Political Awareness for Senior Officers
  • Effective Community Leadership
  • Commercial Awareness in Local Government
  • Effective Overview and Scrutiny
  • Developing Public Management
