Creative Writing

The Leicester Centre for Creative Writing within De Montfort University’s Institute of English combines practice-based research and theoretical rigour to explore aspects of writing and creativity across multiple genres. Members of the Centre have been longlisted and shortlisted for multiple literary awards. As a centre for research, our strengths include: memoir and life-writing; experimental and innovative forms of poetic and literary practice; contemporary fiction; creativity and philosophy; cross-genre approaches to creative writing; and cross-cultural theory and pedagogy of writing. Current and recent research at the centre includes contemporary retellings of ancient mythology, explorations of the relationships between literature and music, and experimental work that cuts between collage, film and the written word.

We have strong links with the broader literary world locally, nationally and internationally. As a community of writers, we work locally, nationally and internationally to build links between individuals and communities and writers, publishers and audiences.
