Support at DMU
Once a student arrives at DMU they will have access to DMU’s comprehensive student support services to complement the support of parents or carers and, even though they will be preoccupied with their new surroundings and activities, it’s comforting for them to know you are contactable by social media, telephone, email or post for support, advice or just to check up on things at home.
One of the great things about DMU’s student-support provision is that students and their parents/carers can access the services before they’ve even started their course and ask any last-minute questions or request advice and support prior to enrolment.
As well as the Student Services Department, each of DMU’s faculties has its own student advice centre on hand to support students with both academic and non-academic issues. Your student should ensure they know how to contact their faculty student advice centre and also make full use of their personal tutor, which each undergraduate student is assigned.
In addition to the pastoral support offered to students, DMU also provides the means and support for students to enrich their studies, broaden their horizons and boost their job prospects through international experiences, on-campus and overseas via #DMUglobal, in the local community with DMU Square Mile and when entering the job market.
De Montfort Students' Union (DSU)
Every DMU student is automatically a member of DSU, an independent student-run and student-led organisation created to involve, represent and inspire students to make the most of their time at De Montfort University.
In addition to more than 100 societies and over 40 sports clubs, DSU also offers a free advice centre staffed by a professional team to help with any welfare and academic related queries. First year students worried about settling in at DMU can access the MyUniPal scheme where volunteer mentors provide additional support and advice when needed.
Students looking for work whilst studying; either to support costs or gain experience can visit Unitemps, the on-campus recruitment agency offering part time and seasonal opportunities inside the university and in the local area.
