Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to the community whilst you are studying. It helps students gain skills and experiences which can boost employability. Volunteering also helps our students make new friends with shared interests and can help with feelings of isolation.

We have a widening participation programme with the schools of Leicestershire and a series of projects in the schools themselves but also with many pupils coming on to the DMU campus for activities.

DMU Local's public engagement work also has an international element with the management of the university's work with the United Nations and as the global hub for Sustainable Development Goal 16 plus the Square Mile India project, which sees the university and student volunteers support a community in the Gujarat.
