Angela Hillery CEO
Angela is joint CEO at two NHS Trusts who provide Mental Health and Community services in Northamptonshire (NHFT) and Leicestershire (LPT). She joined LPT in 2019 and NHFT provided a buddy trust support to LPT. In April 2020 both trusts formed a group model recognising mutual opportunities to continue to learn together. NHFT achieved an overall Outstanding CQC rating in 2018 and 2019, including an overall Outstanding for Community services and Mental Health in 2019.
Angela has worked within the NHS for 33 years and has a clinical background as a Speech & Language therapist, obtaining her BSc from DeMontfort University and her Master’s degree at University of Birmingham. In July 2019 Angela was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Northampton for her leadership contribution
She has been in the HSJ Top rated CEO’s, including recently in top 80 most influential people in the English NHS and has been a finalist for 'Chief Executive of the Year' at the HSJ Awards. Angela’s ethos is in her commitment to upholding values, listening, and learning, developing compassionate cultures for those we work with and for those we care for. Co-production and involvement with patients, service users and carers are a priority with many notable projects underway, including the ‘Moving Ahead’ project to deliver equalities in mental health services for BME communities.
Angela, alongside other CEOs is part of a pioneering East Midlands Alliance for mental health and learning disabilities, working together to improve the quality and effectiveness of services. Joint work so far includes collaborative learning events around transforming care, BAME and Restraint, demand, and capacity modelling, NCMs and creating joint shared approaches to Covid-19 demands.
Both trusts are now lead providers for regional collaboratives in CAMHS and Adult Eating disorders. Angela was invited to join the National MH Restoration & Recovery Group, DHSC Psycho-social Group and Midlands Strategic Transformation & Recovery Board. She was also asked to take part in the NHS Providers Parliamentarian’s webinar where the subject of discussion was the impact of mental health due to Covid-19.
