LGBTQ+ businesses to support

We have compiled a list of fantastic LGBTQ+ businesses to support during LGBTQ+ History Month. Businesses include luxury handmade teddy bears, clothing for those who are transitioning and LGBTQ+ books.

Founder Finnegan Shepard started Both& inspired by his transition and frustrated with the lack of options on the market. Instead of designing in a vacuum, Both& is working directly with the community to shape a brand that answers to our needs and desires. Everything they do-their designs, their research, and the space for storytelling at the heart of their brand-is done in conversation with their community. They believe in evidence-based designs, sustainably and ethically produced garments, and in creating a space of voice and visibility for a diverse and underserved population. An example of their product is a T-Shirt, which minimizes cling to create a flat profile with a heavy cotton material ideal to cover a binder.

Dr Botanicals
As a loud and proud LGBTQ+ owned brand, Dr Botanicals champions diversity. They want every person that loves their products to feel good about themselves, and feel part of their family. They have always and will always support movements for equality like Black Lives Matter, True Colors Fund, and Stonewall, because there’s still work to be done. Additionally, their products are natural, vegan and cruelty free and for each Lemon Butter Sold, a donation is made to one of three LGBTQ+ Charities they partner with.

Unhappy with heteronormative sex toys, boyfriends Josh Morris and Greg Davis launched their sex toy company Kandid with inclusivity as their main agenda. “I wanted to improve the way we buy and procure sex toys after my own experience of buying these products. It wasn’t very interesting and wasn’t geared towards today’s changing consumer attitudes towards sex and aesthetic appreciation,” Josh explained.

After a decade of collecting hot sauces, boyfriends Dean Smith and Steve Cook created Saucybitch - with help from Captain, their French bulldog and company mascot. Steve said: “They have to be rich and have flavour and those ones that completely blow your brain out don’t really have a flavour, and it almost becomes a competition to see who can have the hottest. You have to be able to have it with your pizza, on your eggs or simply with your cheese sandwich.”

Queer Book Box
Queer Book Box is about getting the best queer books into the hands of people who want to read them. It's powerful to see yourself reflected in a character and they want everyone to experience that joy. They source their books from Gay’s The Word, the UK’s first and oldest lesbian and gay book shop. Serving the community since 1979, the shop boasts stocking ‘an enormous range of books from the profound to the frivolous, from the liberating to the indulgent’. By subscribing with Queer Book Box you're supporting not one, but two queer-owned, independently run businesses.

The Queer Brewing Project
The Queer Brewing Project was set up to provide visibility to LGBTQ+ people in and around beer, and to build community, advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, and raise money for vital LGBTQ+ charities. Led by beer writer, photographer, and ceramicist Lily Waite, the project has so far brewed over 30 beers in five different countries, and has raised thousands of pounds for some incredible and important charities.

Grin&Bear London
It all began with a yearning to create the ultimate Christmas gift for Michael Dankwah’s best friend, Wendy. Stitch by stitch, he meticulously created the most adorable teddy bear - designed and created with love. Such was the reaction that Michael was implored to make another. Then another. Each with the same care and dedication as the last. Grin & Bear was born and goes from strength to strength with each passing year. Each bear is handmade from the finest materials and hand-picked fabrics.

LIMBO Candles
LIMBO Candles sells uniquely shaped, sustainable soya wax candles and ceramics for the eco conscious. All products are also handmade and cruelty free. Founder, Winnie Matthew said: “LIMBO candles were created whilst being in a period of “limbo” last year. I initially started making candles to keep me busy and found it very therapeutic. My friends then convinced me to start selling via Instagram and here we are!”
