Block learning for part-time study

Block delivery is a new and convenient way to study as a part-time student that you can fit around your life needs. It will provide you with a flexible and simplified timetable.

The academic year is split into two semesters which each comprise of two blocks where students can study 30 credit modules. This is completed over seven weeks which includes all learning, teaching and assessment. Part-time students will have the option of taking two blocks consecutively and then having an extended break or to follow a block on, block off approach (i.e. studying one 30 credit block in a semester and 60 credits per year).

The tables below are examples of how part-time block study could work in comparison to a full-time student depending on a student’s circumstances and programme of study:

Full details of how part-time study will work for your chosen subject can be discussed with the programme leader. Please also visit the relevant course page as there will be some variations to the mode of study.

By studying one block at a time rather than several at once, you will have more time to engage with your learning, receive faster feedback and enjoy a stronger learning community as you’ll be with the same teaching team and group of coursemates for each block. This approach has already proven popular with our new cohort of students, with 93% of respondents saying they enjoyed studying one module at a time. The dedicated teacher contact time means our tutors will be able to be more responsive to individual student needs and more easily identify where you may need additional academic or well-being support. This approach will also increase the opportunities available to you to develop wider skills including entrepreneurial, well-being and life skills.
