Dr Shilpi Banerjee

Shilpi is a social issue in management researcher and her research explores new ways of thinking about the social, ethical, and environmental dimensions of business. She is particularly interested in studying the ways by which business, through their supply chains (both global and domestic), can contribute to social, environmental, and economic sustainability and create value for stakeholders. Under this broad theme, Shilpi conducts research on issues of anti-trafficking ( https://www.trafflab.org/modernslavery-governance), labour exploitation and multi stakeholder initiatives in developing countries context.

Her forthcoming co-edited book (2022), Modern Slavery and the Governance of Global Value Chains, is proposed for the Cambridge University Press Book Series: Development Trajectories in Global Value Chains. Her work also addresses issues of CSR communication in institutionalized and mandated CSR environments (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-24444-6_8 ).Shilpis research draws from a wide range of disciplines, including management, sociology, political science, development studies and law.

Shilpi has over 15 years of work experience, in academia and research, and has worked at the National university of Singapore, University of Hong Kong,  University of London, UK and American university in Dubai, UAE. Shilpi did her Ph.D. in Business Management from Royal Holloway,  University of London, UK and Masters in Public Policy from the National University in Singapore.

2003-2004:  Conference presenter at the annual seminar series, Political Science Department, University of Delhi - Decentralization of Primary Education“ Case study of Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.

2000:  Worked with a team of researchers from London School of Economics (LSE) and IDS Sussex, on a grassroot level development project titled Rights, Representation and the Poor: Comparing Large Developing Democracies, India, Brazil and Mexico, that analysed the impacts of economic liberalisation and globalisation on the poor in the developing world with special reference to India. The project led to many national and international level conferences and seminar participation in India and the UK.

2000:  Conference presenter for research seminar series, funded by the University of Delhi (India) on Narratives of Displacement, that analysed the effects of governments policies on Delhis factory workers. Report was published by the Government of India, Migration Ministry Website.

2000: As a researcher at DCRC (Developing Countries Research Center) University of Delhi, I have coordinated and worked on many research projects supported by UGC India, London School of Economics and Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, Brighton, UK.

2013-2014: Supervised international students of pre-masters diploma degree, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK on projects in Business Management.

2017- 2021: Mentoring and Supervising students on Industry related projects at the American University in Dubai.  In these projects, which are a part of the School of Management academic term curriculum (graded assignments), I work closely with regional and international companies such as Talabat and Wunderman Thomson, on developing partnerships, and collaborations, best practices. Often these lead to internship programs for students.
