Vice-President Student Activities - Derrick Mensah
Your De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) Vice President Student Activities for 2017/18 is Derrick Mensah.
Getting involved with a wealth of varied pursuits is an important custom for your new Vice President Activities, who recently graduated this summer. An avid lover of all sports (apart from swimming but he’s working on that!), passion for music – everything ranging from gospel through to jazz – and enjoying a good anime, action or comedy, Derrick aims to get the best out of people.
‘Impact the Future’ is his personal motto (possible slogan tees…) and focuses on how WE and our choices can benefit future people to come. Despite his involvement in a wide range of exciting activities, Derrick studied for a Biomedical Science degree which he hopes to do something with in the future!
Derrick’s key responsibilities as your VP of Activities are all about increasing student engagement and involvement across the university in all groups including societies, sports and Square Mile. He’s made it his duty to encourage more inter-faculty integration so you’re not only meeting people on your course, but have the chance to interact with people across all departments.
He believes in getting involved, networking and finding a sense of membership, which will be implemented into his role.
Inter-Faculty Activities – To increase engagement within faculties, sports teams and societies.
Performance Events – Give societies more opportunities to perform both on campus and beyond.
Women in Sport – Increase the amount of women playing sport at DMU.
