LGBT activism and representation

LGBT activism on campus plays an important role in the student educational experience: it both protects from discrimination by offering safe spaces to meet each one other and enables to fight against it by politicising sexuality and gender identity issues.

In February 2015 DMU celebrated LGBT history month. The #DMUpride Festival was launched in the Students’ Union building and more than 20 events were staged throughout the month to campaign for and celebrate the LGBT community at DMU and across the city. DMU also proudly to flew the rainbow flag on campus for LGBT History Month during February.

DMU LGBT Staff Network and Committee

DMU has an active LGBT Staff Network and organises and takes part in events for LGBT History Month, IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) and DMU Pride. All of DMU’s LGBT staff are more than welcome to join any of the meetings held throughout the year.

DMU Students Union LGBT Society

The DSU LBGT+ Society is a very active student society that provides advice, support and arranges social events throughout the year. Their website has lots of information including contact details and how to join their Facebook and Twitter pages.
