St Philip's Centre
Based in Leicester and serving the East Midlands, the East of England and the wider UK, St Philips Centre (SPC) has had a partnership with DMU for several years and is one of the country’s premier environments for Christians to actively engage with other faiths
Opened in 2006, as a registered charity and limited company, SPC has an ecumenical board of Trustees (Methodist, Baptist, Roman Catholic, URC, Anglican, Independent) and benefits from the ‘Leicester Experience’ of a uniquely vibrant, multi-faith and ethnically diverse community.
SPC works with grassroots communities, religious leaders and worshipping communities plus numerous statutory and voluntary organisations at all levels in society. As well as providing faith training courses for schools and colleges and quality assured courses for the private and public sector, SPC offers postgraduate training to Certificate, Diploma and MA levels in Inter-religious Relations exploring the theological and social issues raised by religion.
The SPC Research Community also provides a professional forum for current and past postgraduate students and invited tutors, researchers and academics to share stories and ideas.
Meetings are held each term and comprise of a distinguished inter-faith guest-speaker presenting a seminar/lecture based on their research findings, followed by a dialogue session.
Speakers who have participated include:
- The Rt. Revd Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester
- Ataullah Siddiqui, Director and Reader in Religious Pluralism and Inter-faith Relations at the Markfield Institute
- The Rt. Revd Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Southwark London
