Buddy scheme for new international students!
Thank you for visiting the i-Buddies page.
The aim of the i-Buddies scheme is to match newly arrived international students with existing DMU students. Our i-Buddies help new students to adapt to a new country and culture and settle in to life at DMU.
Each scheme only runs for one term only but many buddies become friends and choose to stay in contact when the scheme ends. Over 1250 students have been involved in the scheme since it began in 2012.
What is involved in being a Buddy?
You will be expected to be in contact with a new international student during the autumn term. We’ll put you in email contact with your new buddy initially and there will be a social events for all Buddies and new international students in during the term.
You’ll then be expected to stay in touch with your buddies once a week and to meet up informally every couple of weeks. We’ll provide training during enrolment week and be available to give you help and support if you need it!
There's a role profile here, which lists more of the personal qualities that you'll need as a buddy.
Benefits of being a Buddy
By becoming an international student buddy, you can
- Make friends from all over the world, from a variety of different backgrounds;
- Enhance your cross cultural awareness.
- Develop new skills and experience for your CV.
- Have your involvement on the i-Buddies Scheme recorded on your HEAR
You don’t need to be an international student yourself to be a buddy; in fact we particularly welcome applications from UK students.
You can read a case study here
How can I apply?
