The latest #DMUglobal Mass Trip to Berlin has been launched today (Monday 14 May) offering hundreds of students the chance to experience the German capital, following the success of last year’s Mass Trip to the city.
Current first year undergraduate students who will be going into their second year in 2018/19 are eligible to apply for this opportunity, with itineraries centring on academic areas of study, as well as experiencing the diversity of culture Berlin has to offer.
There will be 17 different trips in total offered by the four faculties which will all travel to Berlin on Monday 10 September and return to the UK on Friday 14 September. Successful applicants will spend 4 nights in Berlin with return flights, hostel accommodation and airport transfers included in the package. Students will be required to pay £149, with #DMUglobal contributing with a £200 bursary.
As part of this Mass Trip, ADH students will be invited to investigate everything from architecture and literature to fashion and the visual arts. HLS students can learn more about immigration, crime, human rights and youth work, while BAL students can study German economics and the impact of the Cold War. Tech students will witness how music, media and the latest innovations have helped shape Berlin.
Alongside this opportunity, students from all levels and programmes are invited to experience volunteering in one of five European capital cities to learn about and directly contribute to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Europe. Supporting the #JoinTogether campaign with DMU and the United Nations, students will be activists for the #JoinTogether campaign and help to continue the important work achieved by the United Nations.
Following visits to a host of European cities including Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Prague and Warsaw, students will travel as a group to join the #DMUglobal Berlin Mass Trip participants for the #JoinTogether Summit in Berlin on 13th September 2018. Further details including how to apply for these opportunities can be found here.
92% of students that went on last year’s #DMUglobal Mass Trip to Berlin felt that it added value to their course and overall 93% of students were happy with the experience.
Criminology and Criminal Justice student Shivani Pala, who took part in last year’s Berlin trip, said: “This trip allowed me to gain a unique insight into a different culture. It has benefited my studies as I will be able to incorporate the things I have learnt in Berlin back into my course.”
With limited places available for this opportunity, a very high number of student applications is expected and there will be a competitive selection process. All students are encouraged to prepare their motivation questions in advance of applying. Application advice can be found here and details of #DMUglobal trip opportunities in Berlin here.
The deadline to apply for a place on the trips is Monday 11 June at 9am.
