Brand new cycle storage facilities will open in the Vijay Patel Building on Monday 29 January. The official opening event will start at 12.15pm, giving students and staff the opportunity to have a look around the storage facility, sign up for access and be shown how to use the racks.
Students and staff will also be able to learn more about the benefits of cycling as a way of getting to the campus and find out about the wider support that DMU provides for cyclists.
The state-of-the-art two-tier storage racks have been installed in the lower ground floor area (accessed via the slope to the left of the big screen), resulting in a secure, dry space capable of storing up to 128 bikes. There are two sections – room 00.01 for students and room 00.06 for staff, as well as a cycle pump and repair station.
DMU’s Sustainability Assistant, Emily Wallis, said: “We are very pleased to be offering modern and secure cycle facilities to those members of staff and students who choose to travel to the university on two wheels.
“The new two-tier racks have maximised the space available to us, resulting in a convenient storage location in the heart of DMU’s newly revitalised campus.
“At DMU we value cyclists and we hope this is reflected in the new facilities available.”
