DMU Music and Philharmonia Orchestra
At DMU Music we're proud to work with the renowned Philharmonia Orchestra, offering our students a wealth of opportunities in the orchestral sector. Whether it's gaining valuable insights in the innovative technologies of the Philharmonia's Virtual Orchestra project, going behind the scenes of the headquarters of this internationally acclaimed ensemble, or performing with some of the world's most sought-after artists, the possibilities we're offering DMU students and staff provide unique and inspiring experiences for all DMU musicians.
Philharmonia Student Ambassadors
Each academic year, we offer two DMU students an exciting opportunity to work directly with the Philharmonia's Marketing team. Student Ambassadors promote the Philharmonia Orchestra's concerts and student offer on campus, along with opportunities to participate in a range of community and education based projects, jointly organised by the Philharmonia and DMU.
In return, ambassadors receive complimentary tickets to all of the Philharmonia's Leicester season concerts, access to open rehearsals, employability briefings with senior staff and invitations to function events at Leicester's De Montfort Hall.
Meet the current Student Ambassadors!
Gabriele Marija Baltrusyte
My name is Gabriele Marija and I study law at DMU. My mom took me to music school when I was 5 and music has been a huge part of my life ever since. I love playing various classical, improvisational or modern pieces on piano and learning the history of music. I find it fascinating how music can influence our lives and mood. I help out in DMU Music events, had a chance to sing in a choir once (looking forward to doing it again) and attended many Philharmonia concerts and educational events through the year. I love being PO student ambassador, because it allows me to do something music related alongside my non-musical course, I had a chance to meet many inspiring artists and see my ideas turn to reality.
I’m a second year Economics student and a member of the DMU Jazz Band. I have
had several amazing opportunities to get involved with music projects here at
DMU, such as the Leicester Prison Music Project and the Hear and Now
Project. These projects create fantastic ties with the local community and
memories to last a lifetime. Being a Philharmonia Orchestra ambassador has
been one of my favourite university experiences. The opportunities that the
partnership between DMU and the Philharmonia Orchestra provide are definitely
something I would recommend getting involved in. They have broadened my musical
horizons in more ways that I could have ever imagined, and the concerts at De
Montfort Hall are a must see!
