DMU Music and Philharmonia Orchestra
At DMU Music we're proud to work with the renowned Philharmonia Orchestra, offering our students a wealth of opportunities in the orchestral sector. Whether it's gaining valuable insights in the innovative technologies of the Philharmonia's Virtual Orchestra project, going behind the scenes of the headquarters of this internationally acclaimed ensemble, or performing with some of the world's most sought-after artists, the possibilities we're offering DMU students and staff provide unique and inspiring experiences for all DMU musicians.
Philharmonia Student Ambassadors
Each academic year, we offer two DMU students an exciting opportunity to work directly with the Philharmonia's Marketing team. Student Ambassadors promote the Philharmonia Orchestra's concerts and student offer on campus, along with opportunities to participate in a range of community and education based projects, jointly organised by the Philharmonia and DMU.
In return, ambassadors receive complimentary tickets to all of the Philharmonia's Leicester season concerts, access to open rehearsals, employability briefings with senior staff and invitations to function events at Leicester's De Montfort Hall.
Meet the current Student Ambassadors!
Hi! I am Natalie, a second year student of Arts and Festival Management. Being Philharmonia’s Student Ambassador is a great experience and an opportunity to learn more about promotion, art management, music and of course the Philharmonia. I was interested in this role because I play the piano and the violin and I have always been interested in classical music, but also because it gives me an opportunity to see what I am studying in practice. I would definitely recommend this role to everyone who would like to know more about music and promoting.
My name is Harrison and I'm a final year Music Technology student at DMU. After picking up the bass guitar 8 years ago, music has never left my side. Being a Philharmonia Orchestra student ambassador is a fantastic opportunity to not only hear great music by talented people, but it is also an opportunity to meet, work and laugh with new, like-minded people, all while promoting a great orchestra!
Hello, I'm studying MSc Business Management in the Creative Industries at De Montfort University in Leicester. I felt that DMU Music was making an excellent effort in making live music more affordable and accessible to students and wanted to give back something - that is how I decided to volunteer, and it has been an honour to be a Philharmonia Orchestra student ambassador. Music transcends all kinds of language barriers and boundaries to touch the human heart and soul. The De Montfort Hall concerts are beautiful and deeply moving, and I hope that more people, especially those who generally do not see themselves going to classical music concerts, or listening to orchestra music will open up and join us. Because being able to enjoy a truly delightful concert experience has got to be one of the unmissable things of student life!
