The DMU Music ensembles present a wealth of opportunities for amateur and professional musicians on campus and within the county.
Led by a team of professional musical directors, each ensemble strives to create quality musical experiences through performing an ambitious, challenging repertoire, focusing on the development and skills of our musicians.
DMU Chamber Choir
The DMU Chamber Choir first started as an upper voices choir in October 2016 and has now evolved to a filled-out SATB choir.
Led by professional Musical Director Willard Welsford, the choir explores repertoire from the past 500 years of classical choral tradition, as well as more contemporary pieces.
The DMU Chamber Choir rehearses every Wednesday and Thursday evening on the DMU campus. Interested in joining the Chamber Choir? See our current opportunities.
DMU Jazz Band
The DMU Jazz Band was created through DMU’s strategic partnership with Leicester Jazz House. The ensemble is coached by professional saxophonist and composer Richard Everitt.
The Jazz Ensemble rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 18:30 – 20:30 in the Chantry building on the DMU Campus.
Follow the band's rehearsals and concerts on Twitter or Instagram via @dmujazzband.

Centred around DMU’s partnership with the internationally renowned Philharmonia Orchestra, the DMU Orchestra brings together DMU students and staff with local and international amateur and professional musicians.
Some of their previous repertoire includes: ‘Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis’ by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Mozart’s ‘Overture to the Marriage of Figaro’ and Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No.2’ alongside classic rock anthems.
Rather than rehearse weekly, the orchestra meets for an intensive rehearsal schedule in the build up to each concert (four rehearsals). To stay up to date with audition opportunities and concert dates, see the DMU news pages and follow DMU Music on social media.
