Industrial action - student complaints form
This complaints form is to be used for students who wish to make a complaint as a result of the strike action in academic session 2019/2020.
The university wishes to reassure you that we are working hard to avoid or minimise disruption to your studies as much as possible and we are in close communications with De Montfort University Students’ Union (DSU) to ensure there is the right support available.
In light of this, we have chosen to streamline our usual 3 stage complaint process for complaints made as a result of the strike action. For all other complaints our standard complaint procedure applies.
This streamlined process will consist of completion of the complaint form below and submission to the Academic Support Office email@example.com within 30 university working days of the last strike date, that is by Thursday 30 April 2020.
It is important to submit a complaint form by this deadline. It may not be possible to determine whether the strike action has had a direct impact on your academic performance until results have been released. However, in some cases the complaint might be resolved much earlier and therefore the University will need you to register your complaint within the deadline above. Upon receipt of your marks, should you wish to pursue your complaint, you will need to contact the Academic Support Office firstname.lastname@example.org to instruct the university to investigate your complaint further.
Your complaint will be reviewed and investigated in line with stage 2 of the university’s complaints procedure. All outcomes will be reviewed by the Executive Director of Student and Academic Services and Associate Chief Operating Officer, or their nominee.
If you are unhappy with the outcome of your complaint, you can make a formal appeal to the University Complaints Committee.
The university has processes (linked at the bottom of this page) for seeking extensions to deadlines, for submitting claims for mitigation or extenuation, or for making an academic appeal.
