Prayer Room Intro
De Montfort University (DMU) students benefit from a dedicated prayer room which has a capacity of around 400, recently renovated ablution facilities and support from a Muslim Chaplain. The Prayer Room is on the basement/lower-ground floor of the Portland Building.
The entrance to the Prayer Room is from the back entrance of Portland Building i.e. from Newarke Close through the car park.
(Imam) Mohammed Laher is the Muslim Chaplain at De Montfort University. He works with colleagues in Student and Academic Services to support and enhance the student experience.
Here is a short introduction from the Muslim Chaplain.
The Muslim Chaplain provides advice and guidance on matters relating to faith and religion, as well as spiritual, pastoral, moral and social care in the University, including for staff on the religious needs of students and staff.
He is a qualified and trained Imam (leader) who leads congregational prayers and also offers the opportunity to other qualified and trained users to lead prayers.
The Imam regularly when possible makes himself available after prayers to offer advice, counselling, one-to-one and/or group guidance and support on a first-come-first-served basis.
He is part of the Muslim Prayer Room Advisory Group (MPRAG) and also works with the Student Union (DSU) affiliated Societies.
