We would like to wish staff and students at DMU a happy Passover.
The eight-day Jewish holiday takes place from Wednesday 5 April to Thursday 13 April.
It is a spring festival that begins on the fifteenth day of Nisan, the first month of the Jewish calendar.
Passover is one of the most important religious festivals in the Jewish calendar and it celebrates the journey from slavery to freedom and signifies a new beginning.
The celebration starts with a special service called Seder. This includes a meal containing six foods, each with a symbolic meaning. During the meal, the story of Exodus is told from a book called the Haggadah and everybody takes part in rituals corresponding to the story.
A traditional game is also played, where pieces of unleavened bread called Matzo are hidden for children to find. The Matzo symbolises the speed in which the Jewish people left when they were led out of Egypt as they did not have time to let their bread rise before baking it.
Celebrations also include reciting special blessings or prayers, reading the Torah, drinking red wine and singing lots of songs.
