World Mental Health Day Activities 2022


Monday 10 October is World Mental Health Day and DMU along with the De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) are running a whole week of activities to for you to get involved with and to learn more about what is available to help you look after your health and wellbeing whilst at university.

Mindful Lego - Why not drop in and incorporate mindfulness into everyday activities such as building Lego?

Walk to talk event - Come and celebrate World Mental Health Day by joining your Welfare Executive, Aliya and DSU in a Walk to Talk event around Leicester.
Meeting point Atrium Campus Centre, 5-7.30pm

Tuesday 11 October

Mindfulness - Learning to focus on the here and now can help to improve concentration and regular mindful practice can boost our feelings of wellbeing.

My Mind Matters – Mental Health Crisis Café - The cafes are separate to DMU and DSU and are there to offer free mental health support in a welcoming, comfortable, non-judgmental, and non-clinical environment.

Wednesday 12 October

Wellbeing Wednesday –Join your DSU team for a Colour and Chat session. A time to relax, and chat while doing fun-filled crafts, also part of Black History Month.

Thursday 13 October

Positive Mindsets and Settling into University - This masterclass will discuss ways to develop a positive mindset for the Autumn term and share practical tips for meeting people and getting involved in all that is on offer here at DMU. Please book via MyGateway.

Life Links Peer Support Group - Every week Life Links will be offering a student peer support group facilitated by two of their trained Recovery Workers.

Student Minds - Look after your mate - The Look After Your Mate workshop aims to give more students across the UK the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to support their friends at university.Please book via MyGateway.

DMU in collaboration with DSU were recently recognised by Advance HE's Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (2022) for 'Embedding Mental Wellbeing', a project that seeks to ensure that all students have access to mental wellbeing support. Support is available to you throughout your time at university. Below we have highlighted some of these services and explained them in more detail for you.

HealthyDMU

The Healthy DMU Hub brings together information on a range of health and wellbeing-boosting activities. You can have some great fun, and maybe even try things you’ve never considered. From registering with a GP to information on our DSU societies, there’s something for everyone.

Our Student Welfare Team run regular mindfulness sessions and this week, to mark World Mental Health Day our team are running a Student Minds session called ‘Look after your mate’. This workshop aims to give more students across the UK the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to support their friends. 

Single Point of Access (SPA) Appointment

Single Point of Access appointments last 45-minutes and are dedicated to discussing your situation with a member of our Wellbeing team.

You’ll be offered advice and referral/signposting to relevant support staff from DMU or other appropriate agencies and given an action plan of what to do next. You can book an appointment via MyGateway.
