To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, DMU is taking part in a number of nationwide events.
Marking 70 years of service from 1952 – 2022, the Jubilee Weekend will run from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June.
The Big Jubilee Lunch
In honour of this momentous occasion, DMU will be taking part The Big Jubilee Lunch, the UK’s annual celebration for neighbours and community, on Sunday 5 June.
We’re inviting students, staff and members of the public to bring a picnic and celebrate together on campus from 12-2pm.
Everyone is invited, so why not join in, have fun and get to know your fellow DMU students and members of the local community.
If you would like to attend, please email DMU Local by Friday 27 May.
From Thursday 2 June, Trinity House will be part of the UK’s Jubilee Beacons, in which thousands of beacons will be lit by communities, charities and different groups throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
Dance for the Queen
Seven dance groups have each choreographed a stunning dance routine to a medley of iconic music tracks from the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Find out more here.
The Queen’s Green Canopy
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a nationwide tree planting initiative marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Individuals, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporate groups from across the UK are invited to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.
DMU has planted a tree near the Riverside as part of this initiative.
Jubilee Afternoon Tea
With fabulous cakes and sandwiches worthy of the occasion, this afternoon tea is one of the tastiest ways to mark the Platinum Jubilee and honour our Monarch.
Please note: As these events coincide with the Riverside Festival, there will be a number of road closures around the area. All DMU buildings, excluding the Kimberlin Library, will be closed during the bank holiday. Toilets will be available in the Vijay Patel Building via the Food Village entrance.
