Get involved with DMU Local's Christmas volunteering opportunities

To celebrate the festive season, DMU Local have put together a collection of opportunities for students and staff who wish to contribute and support the local community.

Volunteering opportunities include the Holiday Food Programme, ran by Leicester City Council, as well as a donation drive to support the 146 food hampers that local Leicester charity E2 will be distributing to children and families in the Beaumont Leys area.

Opportunities:

Age UK Christmas Lunch Volunteer:

Age UK are looking for DMU staff and student volunteers to support them with their Christmas Lunch events on three dates throughout December.

If you are feeling festive and want to spread some Christmas cheer to the elderly, why not offer your time to help out at these Christmas Lunches.

As a volunteer, you’ll be serving lunches and interacting with individuals to let them know they are not alone this Christmas.

Lunch events will take place on Tuesday 7, 14 and 21 December from 11am – 3pm at Clarence House.

To sign up, please complete this form by Friday 2 December 2021.

Holiday Activities and Food Programme:

The Holiday Activities and Food Programme provides children and young people who are eligible for free school meals with free activities and meals during the school holidays.

The next programme will be in December, and we are looking for volunteers who will be available from Saturday 18 – Thursday 30 December 2021.

Available roles include making and distributing food and supporting fun activities for children and young people in the community.

The programme will be based at different locations across the city and into neighbouring communities.

There is especially a need for enthusiastic volunteers who can assist with various activities such as games and physical activity.

You will be asked to commit to a minimum of 1 full day.

Please complete this form to register your interest and availability and we will be in touch with the specific locations and dates where volunteers are needed.

E2 Christmas Hampers:

Please help us to help disadvantaged children in Beaumont Leys and Abbey wards this year by supplying a few items for a hamper that will make this Christmas really special.

All donations from DMU students and staff will go alongside Christmas gifts and other products that will put a smile on the face of around 146 disadvantaged children.

Donations can be dropped off at the Campus Centre until Friday 17 December 2021.
