De Montfort Students’ Union and De Montfort University would like to show support for those lost in the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand on 15 March 2019 through student-led Open Prayer.
DSU and DMU will be hosting a student-led Open Prayer in Hawthorn Square on Thursday 28 March between 11.30am – 1pm to remember those who lost their lives.
This is an opportunity to observe the Islamic Prayer and stand in solidarity with the DMU community in condemning acts of terrorism, hatred and division.
The Open Prayer - which has been organised by the DMU Islamic Society - will also remember those who have been affected by all recent tragedy worldwide.
We encourage all Muslim and Non-Muslim staff and students to take part in showing that DMU stands with the world in unity.
For those taking part, we welcome everyone to bring prayer mats, yoga mats or cloth the lay on the ground. For those observing, we kindly request that you do not stand or walk in front of a person in act of prayer.
