This week sees the launch of one of the most innovative programmes ever run at DMU – and we would like you to be part of it. Talent25 will involve hundreds of families across the city, some of the country's best creative talent and our partners at Arts Council England (ACE).
What's Talent25 all about?
Talent25 aims to provide, for the first time, academic evidence of the impact that sustained arts experiences – such as listening to or learning music, cinema, theatre, children's festivals, visiting libraries or reading books and museums – has from birth to adulthood.
A team of DMU researchers will bring an academic focus to the Arts Council's belief that while 'talent is everywhere, opportunity is not'. The research team will follow children born in the Leicester area to explore what happens when they and their families are given regular opportunities to get involved in creative activities. A core principle is that children, parents and families should all help to co-create these activities and opportunities available to children.
DMU staff and students are warmly invited to the launch of Talent25 on Friday 25 January from 1-2pm @TheVenue. Doors open at 12.30pm. The event will be a celebratory showcase of performance, music, drama, dance and art with introductions from our Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard and Chief Executive of ACE Darren Henley.
There will also be the chance to find out more about this unique programme, the opportunities it provides and how staff and students can get involved in the programme in the future. As part of the launch, DMU's campus will be transformed with pop-up children's creative clubs involving youngsters from primary schools around the city and led by DMU staff and students.
