Shining a Light on Poetry with Goutam Karmakar and Debjani Chatterjee MBE


DMU is proud to welcome visiting Indian poet and academic Goutam Karmakar, who will be joined in an informal poetry reading and discussion by our Royal Literary Fund Fellow and celebrated writer, Debjani Chatterjee MBE.

Shining a Light on Poetry is open to all and takes place in the Kimberlin Library (KL0.07B) on Thursday 22 November at 5.15pm.

Goutam teaches English at a college in Sidhu-Kanhu-Birsha University. He is also a PhD student at the National Institute of Technology in Durgapur, West Bengal, and serves on the editorial teams of several literary journals. He is currently editing an anthology of contemporary Indian poetry in English, which includes work by British Indian poets. Goutam’s reading will focus on their poems.

Debjani has won numerous awards for her poetry. She received an MBE in 2008 and has had more than 65 books published. This month sees the publication of her first micro-pamphlet of poems from Hedgehog Press, Smiling at Leopards. She is also a children’s author, storyteller and creative arts therapist.
