Student & graduate entrepreneurship
The Careers Team offers a wide range of programmes, activities and support for students who want to develop entrepreneurial skills, or launch and grow their own business.
Year-round activities include individual business advice, enterprise competitions, workshops, events and international trips with DMU Global to destinations such as Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and Lisbon.
Initiatives are supported by national enterprise organisations, established entrepreneurs and DMU alumni who visit the campus to speak to students about their career journey and how to get started with setting up a business.
Second year students can apply to complete a full Enterprise Placement Year, developing their own business idea and learning entrepreneurial skills with the university’s support.
There are many activities that all students can participate in, including a social enterprise society, TEDx talks and training and inspirational speaker events.

“The initiatives offered by the Enterprise team at DMU are a great tool for inspiring future entrepreneurs. My journey with the team began with the Pitch2win competition, where I was lucky enough to win a £1,000 contribution towards trialling services for my business. I was also lucky enough to travel to California with one of DMU’s enterprise trips and later, hosted the university’s first ever TEDx event”.
Jane Hearst, Master of Business Administration, Leicester Castle Business School.
