Activity this Christmas with DMU Local

Food Donation Drive

With Christmas soon approaching, we are calling on our staff and students who would like to help in contributing food donations which will support the elderly and isolated across Leicestershire. DMU Local are working with food banks to ensure various food items reach those in need of support.

The food banks are in short supply as the reliance on them has increased over the Covid-19 lockdown period. The food banks have provided examples of items which they are in need of for their Christmas supplies and would greatly appreciate anything which you may want to donate including:

  • Tinned food items - Tomato, vegetables, chickpeas, etc
  • Tea, coffee, Sugar
  • Biscuits
  • Crisps
  • Cooking oil
  • Rice
  • Pasta, pasta sauce

Where can I drop off donations?

We have set up a food cage at the Campus Centre reception will be available for you to drop off your donations.

When can I drop off donations?

The Campus Centre SU is open from 7:30am-7pm, Monday to Friday. The Campus Centre will be closed at 7pm 11th December for Christmas, please ensure you drop off any donations before this time so they can be included in the delivery to food banks.

Food Banks

DMU Local have been working closely with the E2 Community hub and Wesley Hall, from Beaumont Leys and Spinney Hills respectively. As a food bank they actively seek to support the most vulnerable in society aiming to reduce hunger and social isolation.

DMU Local have worked with both charities for a number of years. Most recently since Covid-19 began to effect communities in Leicestershire, DMU Local supported the cause by proving staff and student volunteers. Currently we have a number of students placed at both food banks as there has been a rise in demand since the most recent lockdown in the UK. Food donations will be split across both food banks ensuring the local communities which are elderly, isolated and vulnerable won’t be forgotten this winter.

*Please ensure all donations are in good condition, within date, not opened and are non-perishable

Fundraising Donation Drive

2020 has been a year that has shaped the very way the world runs and could run for a long time. This has also meant people are now suffering financially and people in and around Leicester need our support more than ever.

DMU Local have set up a digital fundraising option to allow donations to be paid electronically. This is a great option for staff where a physical donation of items is difficult or not possible. Anyone can donate and every pound received will be used by Leicestershire Cares, who are a charity run organisation that aim to reach the elderly, isolated and vulnerable across Leicestershire.

Funds generated will contribute towards the Christmas ‘Together We Care’ Packages which DMU Local are sponsoring £1,000, will aim to lift the spirits and spread joy to some of those that are having a challenging time due to Covid-19. The packages will be distributed to vulnerable young adults and older people who have been affected either financially or through isolation and loneliness, along with those in need of wellbeing support.

How can I donate:

You can donate online. The donation drive fundraising will come to a close on the 11th December at 5pm.
