Meet the team
Allison Brindley, Registered Nurse: Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing
Allison's clinical background is in primary care, working as a general practice nurse where she has managed and delivered vaccination programmes for 10 years. Allison delivers immunisation training at DMU for those new to immunisation in line with Public Health England recommendations.
Cathy O’Malley: Travel Health Nurse Specialist
Teaching Travel Medicine is Cathy’s way of combining her passion for Travel Medicine with her enthusiasm to deliver high quality interactive teaching to practice nurses. She started by teaching small groups of practice nurses in GP surgeries on behalf of a pharmaceutical company, and by 2015 was a national speaker teaching study days all over the UK to groups of up to 90 practice nurses.
In 2015, Cathy became a freelance Travel Health Trainer and currently trains Practice Nurses in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. She also teaches Travel Health on the Practice Nurse course at De Montfort University in Leicester and on the Travel Medicine diploma course at the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons in Glasgow.
Her enthusiasm and passion for Travel medicine is evident in her presentations. Her teaching style is interactive, engaging and motivational. Practice Nurses like being taught by someone who is still in a clinical role, the combination of her knowledge of Travel Medicine and its practical application with regards to patients appeals to them.
