DMUtransform - Crowdfunding
Welcome to DMUtransform - De Montfort University's crowdfunding platform
Do you have an amazing project or idea? Do you need funding for it? Then DMUtransform is just for you! DMUtransform is available to all current students or staff at the university who can submit their crowdfunding ideas for funding.
About crowdfunding
By definition crowdfunding is funding a project by raising lots of small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the internet.
Donors pledge a donation to your project and in exchange they receive tangible, non-monetary 'rewards' such as an e-card, tickets to your show or a branded t-shirt.
How it works
Think about your idea, promotional plan and proposed rewards and sign up to our Crowdfunding platform, create your project and submit!
Before your project goes live, our DMUtransform moderation team is there to help you get it just right. We can help to design your page.
You can then use your pitch to fundraise from family, friends and group contacts, via social media, blogs or any other way you can.
To give your project a boost, the DMU Alumni Association can also spread the word to the wider community of DMU graduates.
Some projects may also receive match funding (certain criteria apply).
Suitable projects
Projects can be about anything - but they should focus on the benefit they will provide to students, our University, or the wider community. Projects will be judged on their goals, their creative or innovative merits and the level of organisation and commitment demonstrated by you and your team.
Examples of suitable projects include:
-
- funding a new piece of equipment for a sports team or society
- supporting performances and theatrical or film productions
- extra funding for DMUglobal trips and expeditions
- DMUlocal or DMUsquaremile projects
- conferences and events
- entrepreneurship and social enterprise
- materials for your ADH final year projects

Tips for success
- Tell a story!
- Think of creative rewards
- Make a killer pitch video
- Find supporters
- Make a weekly plan
- Don’t be afraid to ask for donations, and to keep asking!
All or nothing!
We ask you to provide us with two amounts - the minimum you need for your project, and your ultimate target.
Funds only change hands if a project has reached its minimum once it hits its end date. This means you only need to carry out your project and deliver rewards if you achieve this minimum target. We recommend setting the minimum at the smallest amount you need to complete your project and successfully deliver rewards. You can still set a bigger project target as well! Most projects receive considerably more than their minimum.
