On June 13, the History and English departments will host a PhD showcase event at the brand new Stephen Lawrence Research Centre. The afternoon will consist of one session of PhD presentations (approx. 10-15 mins, giving an overview of your PhD topic and perhaps one example of a case study you’ve been looking at) and one session with alumni from both English and History talking about their journey post-PhD. This will be followed by a drinks reception.
You are all warmly invited to come and present your research and/ or simply attend to meet your fellow PhDs and alumni. We have also invited the staff of the English and History department, so this is a great opportunity to get to know everyone in an informal atmosphere, and have a look around the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre (number 35 on map) as well as the Heritage Centre (number 17 on map.)
The provisional timetable is as follows:
1:30-2:00 Welcome coffees/teas
2:00-3:15 Highlighting current research with talks from current PhD students
3:45-5:00 Careers symposium: discussing careers in, around and beyond academia. Speakers will include Philip Pothen- Director of communications DMU & former head of communications at AHRC; Helen Carr- Public Historian & author; and Sally Cleere postgraduate specialist at DMU careers department.
5:00 onwards Heritage Centre for drinks and further networking
