Teaching and Learning Conference 2019
DMU hosted its annual Learning and Teaching conference which attracted over 200 delegates from our Academic and Professional Services staff to our Hugh Aston Building.
The conference is a chance for staff at DMU to meet and discuss the important issues confronting teachers and students through a wide variety of forums and perspectives.
Delegates enjoyed an action-packed day of workshops, poster displays and keynote talks exploring all things ‘student engagement’. Dr Alex Buckley, Senior Learning Enhancement Adviser, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow was the keynote speaker and he discussed the confusion about the concept of student engagement, and why that’s a problem for practice as well as policy. Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Jackie Labbe outlined priorities for the current academic year and Dr Momodou Sallah, Director of Centre for Academic Innovation (CAI), provided an update on his ambitions for CAI and the opportunities the centre can open for rethinking pedagogy at DMU and supporting academics to implement innovative teaching practices.
