Chief Constable, Leicestershire Police

Simon Cole joined the Board of Governors in July 2017.

Simon took up his position as Chief Constable of Leicestershire in June 2010. Simon has led national portfolios for the Chief Police Officers on mental health, disability, vetting, procurement and Prevent. In 2012, Simon was acknowledged by the Employers' Forum on Disability as their Emergency Services Disability Champion in the Disability Standards Award. In April 2012, Simon also became N.P.C.C. national lead for the Local Policing and Partnerships Business Area. This includes local policing, 101 and contact management, citizens in policing and digital engagement. In 2013, he acted as the police adviser to Lord Adebowale's Independent Commission on Policing and Mental Health, which focussed on the Metropolitan Police.

Locally, Simon represents the Force on the Strategic Partnership Board, working with partners from across the Force area to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. He also chairs the multi-agency Local Resilience Forum and the Force Executive Group, as well as representing the Force in his work with the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Simon leads the East Midlands’ five-force collaborative work stream on Operational Support. He is a member of the College of Policing’s Professional Committee and the Police Reform and Transformation Board. Simon is Vice President of Leicestershire Scouts and Guides and of Police Mutual, which supports serving and retired members of the force.

In 2014, Simon was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the New Year's Honours List and was made an Honorary Doctor of Arts by De Montfort University.

Simon is a keen, but average, sportsman. He can be seen coaching rugby, cycling slowly, fielding keenly during the cricket season and hitting a tennis ball on occasion too.
