Paul McNicoll MA ACMI

Senior Lecturer Fashion Design, De Montfort University

Paul joined the Board of Governors in November 2018 as its academic representative.

Paul is currently Senior Lecturer in the School of Design, Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities, working with level five and six students on Fashion Design BA (Hons). He is also Programme Leader for Fashion and Textiles MA.

In addition to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching responsibilities, Paul has a number of strategic roles including; elected member of Academic Board, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Champion, International Champion for the School of Design and Faculty representative on the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Curriculum Review group.

Originally from industry, working for companies including; Vivienne Westwood, Clements Ribeiro, Marks & Spencer and the Arcadia Group, Paul now has twenty years’ of experience working in higher education in a diverse range of roles, including everything from Technical Demonstrator, right the way through to being the Dean of Design and Technology at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. 

Paul is an external examiner, undertaking roles at Birmingham City University, University of Northampton and Istanbul Moda Academy. Paul is called upon to sit on Academic Misconduct panels, plus validation and periodic review panels, both internally and externally, including for Manchester Metropolitan University and Istituto Marangoni (London campus and Paris campus).

Paul’s recent achievements include leading on the proposal, business model, successful validation and recruitment for a new programme: Fashion Communication and Styling BA (Hons). He was nominated for a DMU Oscar 2018 for Team of the Year (UDL Champions) and, of his most recent cohort of Masters Graduates, one has secured a design position with Calvin Klein and another has secured the front cover of a fashion magazine with their MA work.

Paul has been invited to be an International guest Lecturer at Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Istanbul Moda Academy, Parsons the New School New York and University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka.
